Orphan Outreach

MarketplaceXMikey’s: When Two Nonprofits Work Together to Support Vulnerable Children

Orphan Outreach has partnered with Mikey’s Place, based in Houston, Texas, to produce custom candles to raise funds for orphaned and vulnerable children around the world, while at the same time creating job opportunities for the young adults in the Mikey’s Place Together program who receive vocational training, dignified work, and purpose in a supportive environment.

Through this first-time collaboration, five custom-scented candles for Orphan Outreach Marketplace, the online market for Orphan Outreach, will be created. The young adults in Mikey’s Place will produce the candles from start to finish, and Orphan Outreach will debut the candles at the Women for Orphan’s Worldwide (WOW) events in December. The five custom candles named for Texas landmarks feature Piney Woods (freshly-cut Christmas trees), Marfa (cotton candy with berries and fig), Palo Duro (sandalwood and amber), Luckenbach (woodsy with a hint of spice), and Rockport (fresh flowers and sandalwood). All Orphan Outreach Marketplace proceeds – 100% - benefit the programs of Orphan Outreach.

“When we first met the team at Together at Mikey’s Place, we instantly fell in love with their mission. Their heart for equipping young adults with special needs aligns with our own mission of equipping the orphaned and vulnerable to become fulfilled, independent leaders in their own community. We are honored to collaborate with the young adults and staff!” shares Hannah Otazu, Orphan Outreach Marketplace Manager.

Ingrid Monroy, Executive Director of Mikey’s Place, agrees. “Mikey’s Place is thrilled to have connected with Orphan Outreach at a market in Houston earlier this yearBoth of our nonprofits are committed to serving individuals who are often overlooked and creating opportunities for their successThe artisans of the Together at Mikey’s Place work program are so proud of this new collaboration and the meaningful employment it provides them.”
