About this Trip

Join Orphan Outreach for a 12-day mission trip to Kenya, serving children in Nairobi, Bungoma, and Narok. This trip is open to WOW members. The experience also includes a two-night luxury safari in the Maasai Mara, one of Africa's top wildlife destinations.

About Kenya

There are nearly 3 million children who are orphaned in Kenya. 700 children are orphaned each day due to the impact of HIV. 18.5 million Kenyans live below the poverty line. In Nairobi alone, 70% of the population lives in slums, and 70% of the children in those slums do not attend school. 35 million Kenyans lack access to basic medical care. 26% of girls and 32% of boys experience violence as a child. Though the country has made strides to make education more affordable, indirect costs for secondary school are still ten to twenty times more than the monthly income of most rural Kenyan families, making higher education out of reach for children.

Orphan Outreach responds to the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya in three ways. We offer tangible hope by meeting the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of orphaned and vulnerable children. We invest in community outreach programs that strengthen and preserve families in high-risk, impoverished areas. These programs provide nutritious meals, access to Christian education, quality counseling and mentoring, and urgently needed medical care. We equip students and their families with the resources needed to continue their educational journey through junior high and high school.

Team Leaders

Margo Isbell – Margo Isbell is Development Director for OO. She began her work with Orphan Outreach as a volunteer mission trip leader, and is a founding member of Women for Orphans Worldwide (WOW/Dallas Chapter). Margo's passion to serve orphaned and vulnerable children began 20 years ago when she and her husband adopted their daughter, Olivia, from Guatemala. She joined the OO staff in 2016. Margo also has two sons, Andrew and Matthew.

Shannon Batson – I'm originally from Roswell, NM and moved to the Dallas area in 2018 to work for Orphan Outreach. My first mission trip with Orphan Outreach was to India in 2008 with my church in Oregon. I've been to India numerous times, including an internship with Orphan Outreach in 2010 where I spent a month at a home for children living with HIV. The Lord has instilled a passion in me to use the gifts He has given through serving orphaned and vulnerable children around the world by getting to serve on the staff with Orphan Outreach.

Tiffany Wines – Tiffany and her husband traveled to Russia in the late 1990s for the adoption of their two infant children. That journey called her to dedicate herself to making a difference in the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children. Tiffany is a co-founder of both Orphan Outreach and Women for Orphans Worldwide, the volunteer-led auxiliary serving ministry programs in Guatemala and around the world. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Christian University and a Graduate Marketing Certificate from Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. She was a partner of a marketing firm for 12 years before responding to the call to full-time orphan care ministry in 1999.

Accommodations

The team will stay in hotels close to the ministry sites. The land cost is based on double-occupancy rooms with bathrooms. If you would like to have your own room, there will be an additional cost. Please email missions@orphanoutreach.org if you have any questions.
