DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (full time or part time)
Plano, Texas location
Orphan Outreach is a Christian non-profit serving orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. We are looking for a Development Officer to support the Advancement Team. The ideal candidate will focus all their efforts on raising the general budget of Orphan Outreach from individuals, churches, foundations, and corporations. This position has the opportunity to be part or full time depending on the candidate.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Development Officer will be part of the Development and Advancement teams. Their main responsibility is to identify and invite donors into the work of Orphan Outreach, cultivating Champion/donor relationships to provide the resources to accomplish the mission and vision of Orphan Outreach.
Additionally, all fund-raising activities will be ethical, legal, biblical, and consistent with the Orphan Outreach Way of Development. Our donor strategy is focused primarily on pointing Champions/donors to Christ.
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

Contribute to Orphan Outreach’s Development plan
- Manage a portfolio of donors that includes individuals, churches, businesses and others
- Actively and effectively solicit funds for Orphan Outreach general and programs (with a focus on general)
- Strategically create ways to not only build new relationships, but also deepen the engagement level and educate donors on the work happening in the field
- Communicate effectively with donors in a passionate, compelling manner demonstrating humility, integrity and Christ-like character
- Cultivate new relationships with major donors, potential donors, and first-time donors
- Invite Champions to expand their impact by connecting Orphan Outreach to their network of friends and family
- Facilitate opportunities for the President, SVP of Development, and SVP of Strategic Partnerships to form relationships with prospective donors and foundation/trust contacts
- Create and lead mission and vision trips to ministry sites with potential and existing donors
- Track donor communication for all assigned major donor contacts in the donor database
- Provide personal acknowledgement for donor gifts, working to ensure timely and appropriate thank you letters, calls, and outreach
- Identify potential planned (Legacy Fund) giving prospects among Champions
- Support the Special Events in all ways, with a focus on sponsorships, matching dollars, auction items and donations at the events
- Seek and attend networking opportunities
- Develop a strong collaborative working relationship with the other members of the development team and participate actively in the regular development calls
- Participate in global meetings and in regularly scheduled program update calls designed for team building and to stay informed on organizational priorities and results in the field

Qualities that make a successful Development Officer
- Development officers must be articulate in sharing the mission and vision of Orphan Outreach while sharing God’s heart for the orphaned and vulnerable.
- Development officers must be great listeners and able to discern a donor’s passion and interest to help connect them to ministry opportunities that will allow God to use their resources to give and/or serve. They should be skilled in Galvanizing.
- Development officers should be relational and able to develop strong and lasting relationships with Champions.
- Development officers should be able to effectively share with a donor how their gifts have made an impact.
- Development officers should possess confidence, perseverance, and no fear of hearing no.
- Development officers must have all the skills needed to lead and care intentionally for our Champions on a mission trip (for example, be high in the Hogan assessment in adjustment, sociability, and interpersonal sensitivity).
- Development officers should have the highest level of ethics and trustworthiness.
- They need to be intentional, organized, and able prioritize their outreach to Champions.
- They need to be able to research donors and use the database for adding notes and important information.
Requirements
- Must be a committed Christian; adhere to Christian principles and values. Involved in local church and understands the role and value of the church as advocates for orphans
- Requires high level of proficiency with personal computers (Mac preferred) and Microsoft Office applications
- Bachelor's degree is desired
- Availability to travel up to 25% of the year

Skills and Proficiencies
- Requires ability to carry out detailed oral and written instructions, answer phones, return phone calls and communicate in situations with some background noise
- Must speak, read and write English proficiently
