Alexander in Guatemala

Gender: Male
Grade: Matutina (2nd year)

Alexander is the kind of kid who turns curiosity into a little science project, like when he put a white flower in blue water to watch it change color. He lights up when he is with his friends at the CCC and at school, and he does best when he can work alongside others. This year he started first grade and has been learning to add in math, though a busy classroom with lots of children can make it hard for him to follow instructions, and he needs a little extra help in some subjects. Alexander comes from a large family, and he often talks about God protecting them, especially his sister and nieces when they ride motorcycles. When he grows up, he wants to be a soldier, and he says Jesus has helped him by taking care of his family.

She often says thank you for the support and opportunities she receives, and she tries to notice when others need a kind word. Joselin says Jesus has helped her feel brave in hard times, and she thanks God most for her family; please pray her family can find steady, good jobs.

With her mom slowed down by a hernia as they wait for surgery, Reina follows her family’s new routine between school, the community center, and home, and she often looks for small ways to help. She says she wants to be a doctor one day, and she dreams of “a very big house where my siblings and parents can live,” and she thanks God for His love and for helping her be brave and do her homework well.

Cinthia can spend a long time fitting puzzle pieces together, and then she’s ready to switch gears and play ball or tuck her dolls in for “family time.” She’s been getting used to school, and her teachers notice that she likes to join in and stay active in the program. At home, she’s learning what it means to be a big sister since a new baby arrived, and she loves when everyone sits down for meals together. Lately she’s been praying and singing to Jesus, and she’s been talking about how He teaches us to forgive others, while her family is also walking through her father’s recent job loss.
