Orphan Outreach

GRANT WRITER (part-time)

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Grant Writer will provide support to the Advancement team. The ideal candidate will focus all their efforts on raising funds from grants and foundations to support the ministries of Orphan Outreach. Additionally, all fund-raising activities will be ethical, legal, biblical, and consistent with the Orphan Outreach Way.


RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

Research & Apply for Grant Funding

  • Collaborate with other departments to identify program funding needs & priorities.
  • Develop a plan and tools for grant applications, including a grant strategy, and written template (boiler plate) for grants.
  • Research available grants, identify alignment and best grants to apply for, and create a database and calendar for grant deadlines. Develop and maintain the proposal calendar.  
  • Draft high-quality grant narratives, applications and supporting documents based on funding requirements & strategic approach.
  • Coordinate with team to collect all needed program information, financials, and data for grant applications and reports.
  • Manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submission of all required materials, including thank you letters, impact reports, and other required documents.
  • In collaboration with the development team, assist with cultivating ongoing relationships with current and potential new foundations.
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals. Coordinate and follow-up on the progress of submitted proposals. 
  • Maintain positive relationships with funders and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain excellent records.

Grant Reporting Efforts

  • Create a tracking system and calendar of grant report deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the team to ensure information is requested in advance and collected to complete all reporting requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

NOTE:  These requirements represent minimum levels in order to perform the job on a satisfactory basis.  Candidates must have the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.

Requirements

  • Must be a committed Christian; adhere to Christian principles and values. Involved in local church and understands the role and value of the church as advocates for orphans. 
  • Requires high level of proficiency with personal computers (Mac preferred) and Microsoft Office applications. 
  • 2 years’ work experience in donor or business development 
  • Bachelor's degree is desired.

  • Requires strong attention to detail and focus on quality.

  • Requires ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with staff, donors, and potential donors.

Skills and Proficiencies

  • Requires exceptional organization and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work effectively 
  • Requires exceptional writing skills 
  • Requires ability to carry out detailed oral and written instructions, answer phones, return phone calls and communicate in situations with some background noise.                   
  • Must speak, read and write English proficiently.
