About this Trip
Join Orphan Outreach in serving children in Honduras. This is a 7 Day/6 Night mission trip to Honduras. This team will visit La Paz to serve at the NiCo Early Childhood Development and After School programs. This team will be closed to members of Chase Oaks Church, along with their friends and family.
About Honduras
Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America, and one of the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 62.8% of all Hondurans live in extreme poverty. An estimated 170,000 children are orphaned in Honduras. There are nearly 21,000 new cases of children in crisis each year. Only 43% of Honduran children enrolled in primary school complete the 6th grade. Only 30% will go on to secondary school, and 8% will continue on to college.
Orphan Outreach responds to the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in Honduras in three ways. Working with government agencies and other organizations, we advocate for best practices and policies that directly affect the quality of care of children. We invest in community outreach programs that strengthen and preserve families in high-risk, impoverished areas. These programs provide nutritious meals, access to Christian education, quality counseling and mentoring, and urgently needed medical care. We look for innovative ways to better serve the best interest of orphaned and vulnerable children, including family-based care, foster care, kinship care, and adoption support.
Team Leaders
Elizabeth W. Diaz – My passion for serving God overseas began in college with several service trips to Central America. Feeling called to missions, I enrolled in Fuller Theological Seminary and received my Master's in Intercultural Studies. I also met my husband, Rey Diaz, there. He and I served as pastors in Washington State, and then missionaries in Honduras for five years. There we met Orphan Outreach's founder, Mike Douris. We moved to Texas to serve with Orphan Outreach. My background is also in education and I currently work as an educational consultant for Seidlitz Education, training teachers on how to meet the needs of students learning English.
Rey A. Diaz – I love God and my family. I have a dream job surrounded by incredible people with the same calling as me
Accommodations
