WOW Houston
The WOW Houston Chapter was officially founded in 2018 by a group of passionate mothers and daughters who wanted to help restore hope for orphaned and vulnerable children in Guatemala.
The Chapter kicked off its start with its First Annual WOW Circle of Hope Market in December 2018.
The WOW Houston Circle of Hope Market is the chapter’s largest fundraiser, held each December, showcasing handcrafted items from Guatemalan artisans, with all proceeds benefitting the vulnerable children and families served by Orphan Outreach programs in Guatemala.
The seeds were first planted for the Houston chapter in 2010 when Terri Tarwater, one of the original founding members of the Dallas WOW Chapter, moved to Houston. Terri shared her commitment and vision for a Houston Chapter, and friends began collection drives and traveling on mission trips with Orphan Outreach to serve the at-risk children in Guatemala.
“What has impacted me most personally is watching my own kids’ hearts melt in a way that I could never imagine,” Terri shares. “You can talk about how other people live, but traveling to Guatemala has allowed them to develop a servant’s heart. My daughter told me, ‘I didn’t even know what that was until I saw need. And I realized I can help by praying and offering care in a way that could change someone’s future in a positive way.’”
The WOW Houston Chapter also has membership opportunities for students in grades 6-12.
The Jr. WOW Club volunteers doing projects for the children in Guatemala and assisting with the Circle of Joy Market.
